The Outer Banks Daredevils Baseball Club is one of 15 teams in the Coastal Plain League. The CPL is a summer collegiate baseball league offering experience for college players in a wood bat environment and a chance to refine skills for the pro level. Players come from Division I, II and III, as well as NAIA and junior college schools. It is sanctioned by the NCAA and Major League Baseball. Outer Banks began its play in the CPL in 1997, then returned in 1999 with a new owner, Warren Spivey. The team played its games from 1997-2005 at Coy Tillett Memorial Field at Manteo High School. In 2005 the team was sold to local businessman Marcus Felton, who moved the team to First Flight Baseball Complex in Kill Devil Hills, where the team will begin its fifth season in 2010. League teams are in Virginia (Petersburg, Peninsula, Martinsville), North Carolina (Outer Banks, Edenton, Wilson, Fayetteville, Wilmington, Forest City, Thomasville, Gastonia, Asheboro, Morehead City) and South Carolina (Florence, Columbia). The Daredevils have won two Petitt Cup championships (2002, 2003), the award for the league champion. Outer Banks is in the North Division of the CPL with Edenton, Wilson, Peninsula and Petersburg. The South (Fayetteville, Florence, Morehead City, Wilmington, Columbia) and West (Martinsville, Asheboro, Thomasville, Forest City, Gastonia) are the other two divisions.
