The Outer Banks Daredevils Baseball Club will welcome three players from the University of Richmond to play on its 2010 squad. With Matt Zink, Ryan Mallory and Matt Trent the Daredevils get an infielder, outfielder and pitcher from the Spiders.
Zink, a sophomore, started 21 games last year in the outfield and also had 11 appearances on the mound. The New York native batted .529 in his senior year of high school with a .929 slugging percentage. During Atlantic 10 Conference play for Richmond, Zink had a .276 average.
Mallory is another sophomore who got his share of playing time as a rookie. In a win against Iona he had a career-high five RBIs coupled with a home run. The first baseman drove in three more runs in the next game of the Iona series.
After four starts and 15 appearances as a sophomore, Trent sat out his junior year with a shoulder injury and got a medical redshirt. The right-hander has shown potential during the past fall season, posting average speeds of 91-92.
