Earning success on the field takes teamwork, work ethic, a positive attitude and a will to win. To earn success off the field, however, takes much more. The Outer Banks Daredevils Baseball Club would like to thank sponsors, host families, fans and staff for its success in 2009.
We won the first half of the Coastal Plain League's North Division title — the first time in team history. In addition, we had seven players and head coach Jeff Wicker as league all-stars, reached the semifinals of the Petitt Cup Playoffs and achieved a season-high No. 7 national ranking by Perfect Game Crosschecker (and beat No. 1 Forest City at home).
To reach such milestones, however, takes an entire community, and the Outer Banks did just that with its support.
We broke our single-game attendance record, previously held in 2008, and averaged more than 1,000 fans throughout July and August. Despite economic concerns, sponsorships increased. Many old and new host families took in our players, some even picking them up at airports in Virginia or making post-game meals for the teams. Game day staff got to the field straight from their full time jobs to work contests not decided until 9:30 p.m. or later.
We saw our team, one of the best summer collegiate teams in the country, play 31 times at First Flight Baseball Complex thanks to you. The support from sponsors, host families, fans, staff and the entire Outer Banks community off the field gave our players the added motivation to succeed on it. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at the park again in 2010!
