The Outer Banks Daredevils lost the pivotal final game of a three-game series at Peninsula in the semifinals of the Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Playoffs Monday night.
The Daredevils were poised to take the victory at War Memorial Stadium, getting six strong innings of work from starter Justin Schumer and holding a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning. Peninsula rallied behind a leadoff walk, then back-to-back bunt singles to load the bases. The Pilots would take on four runs in the eighth and hold on to reach the Petitt Cup Finals against No. 1 seed Forest City.
Outer Banks, the CPL North Division first half champion, picked up a run in the ninth off an RBI double by pinch hitter Donnie Corsner but could do no more damage. Peninsula, the North Division season half champ, will enter the finals winning 10 of its last 11 contests. Outer Banks won the first game of the series Saturday in Kill Devil Hills.
